1.Osterseen Hike
Easy hike, approx. 2 1/2 hours, 10 km with beautiful lake landscape
The starting point is the parking lot in the center of Seeshaupt on Penzberger Straße (parking fee required!). From here, follow Dall’Armistraße, leave it after about 150 m and turn right into an avenue leading south. At the next fork in the road, keep right and after a short time you will reach the viewpoint “Emil’s Rest” with a view over Lake Garten to the Benediktenwand. Lake Garten is already part of the Osterseen.
Continue on a narrow path near the shore towards the south. Via this path, you reach Lake Lust within earshot of the road. Cross this and take the turnoff to Lauterbach. After crossing the railway tracks, follow the small path on the left along the tracks. At the next fork in the path, keep right to continue along the northern end of the large Ostersee until you reach the road to Lauterbach. Follow the road to the left; it leads directly to the private clinic Lauterbacher Mühle. After a short stretch, you reach the right turn with the signpost to “Ellmann”. Now go straight ahead through the forest. Shortly before the “Ellmann” farm (farm with beehouse), the path branches off to Pollingsried/Hohenberg. Keep right here and follow the signpost to Frechensee-Seeshaupt. Many benches invite you to rest at Lake Frechen. As you reach the first houses of Seeshaupt, you approach the starting point.
2.Hike from Gasthof Aujäger in Wolfratshausen to Aumühle
Flat hike/circular route, approx. 2 1/2 hours, just under 11 km
Park at the Aujäger inn in Wolfratshausen and walk past the inn on the left. At the fork in the road, follow the paved road to the right towards the forest. From here, the path leads through the forest and past small meadows. After just under 1 hour, you reach Aumühle with its fish farm of the same name. You can get a small snack at the associated fish shop or (if open) stop at the restaurant.
The way back leads along the canal, either you walk on the paved road, on the high bank above or on the opposite high bank back to the Icking weir. At the weir, the paved path leads back through the forest to Wolfratshausen. Here, a trail to the right occasionally leads to the Isar River.
3.Hike from Dürnsteiner Bridge to the Mill and the Raft Slide
Easy circular route, approx. 70 minutes, 7 km
Use parking at the Dürnsteiner Bridge or near the Isar (note: parking fees apply in summer). From the Dürnsteiner Bridge, follow the paved path along the water on the right side of the canal. After about half an hour, you reach the Gasthaus zur Mühle, which is located directly at the raft slide towards Munich. Here you can watch the rafts in the canal and at the slide in summer and stop for refreshments in the cozy beer garden.
The way back leads over the raft slide along the other side of the canal. This path is not paved and leads you directly back to the bridge or to the Bruckenfischer inn. Here too, you can stop for refreshments in the beer garden.
As a very nearby attraction, the church of Schäftlarn Monastery and the Prelate’s Garden can be visited all year round.
Here too, there is a place to stop for refreshments directly opposite in the Klosterschänke inn with a beer garden.
As an alternative to the round from the bridge to the Mühltal, you can also walk in the opposite direction along the high bank of the canal (the path starts behind the Bruckenfischer inn/the road to Aumühle is not recommended) towards Aumühle. The walking time is just under half an hour and is 2.2 km long. The way back is the same.
4.Circular Route of the Grünwalder Sauschütt
Flat circular route, approx. 1 hour, approx. 4.5 km
Coming from Höllriegelskreuth, drive across the bridge to Grünwald. At the marketplace with the large intersection, turn right and follow the road. Use the parking lot at the cemetery or one entrance further directly to the Walderlebniszentrum Grünwald. From the parking lot of the Walderlebniszentrum, walk directly through the forest to the Sauschütt. In the center of the area is a small show garden with a barefoot path and an exhibition house about the animals of the forest.
After leaving the show garden, you can follow the path along the fence. If you stand in front of the entrance to the show garden and follow the path along the fence to the left and then take the next path to the right, you will reach the feeding area of the resident wild boars. There are several show feedings here throughout the day. Along the way, signs repeatedly invite you to guess and experience the forest. Continuing along the fence, the path leads you past the wild boars’ bathing area and back to the entrance of the show garden.
Follow the main path through the forest back to the parking lot.
For older children and adults, a visit to the Munich Climbing Forest, just a few hundred meters from the Sauschütt in Grünwald, is also recommended for climbing. It has 5 different courses and over 923 m of climbing fun.
Advance registration is recommended, as well as bringing a small snack.
